This Is the Beginning of Fulfilling Your Purpose

May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation – the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ – for this will bring much glory and praise to God.  Philippians 1:11 (NLT)

What is the fruit of your salvation?  The fruit of your salvation is what being saved – what being a follower of  Christ – produces in your life.  Salvation produces the character of Jesus in you.

When you get saved and surrender your life to Christ, you begin to take on the characteristics of Jesus Christ through His Spirit living in you.  Your thoughts and actions become more like His as you grow and become the new person He wants you to be.  You become a reflection of Jesus.

So what are some of the characteristics of Jesus?  Well… He loves people.  He is kind.  He is compassionate.  He is unselfish, loyal, dedicated, long-suffering and understanding.  He is patient and stays focused.

These are just a few of the characteristics of Jesus that should be present in the life of the believer.  Some are more evident than others as we grow and mature in the Lord.  But it’s a process.  And we’ll be in this process until we reach Heaven.

The characteristics that Jesus has are the nuts and bolts that helped Him fulfill His purpose on the this earth.  Our characteristics help us fulfill our purpose as well.  It will help us fulfill our purpose if we are unselfish, dedicated, loyal, long-suffering, if we love people, etc.

We have opportunities to display the characteristics of Jesus in day to day life.  And it’s the day to day choices we make that either keep us moving forward on the path of purpose or cause us to stall out and maybe even go astray.

When you’re choosing how to act or react, ask yourself, “Is this something that’s characteristic of Jesus?  Is this what Jesus would choose?”.  If it is, it will help you fulfill your purpose.  If is isn’t, it will hinder fuliflling your purpose.

Let the fruit of your salvation – the characteristics of Jesus – move you toward your purpose.  When you do, you will touch many lives and “bring much glory and praise to God”.

God has a plan and purpose for your life.  Make wise choices today that lead you further down that path tomorrow.  And let the characteristics of Jesus be your guide.
