Figuring Out the Next Step

Imagine having God outline your life step by step, and send it to you in an email.  It’s not likely.  But… God can do something similar.  That happened to me. Sort of.  On a teeny tiny degree.

In our quest to fulfill what God calls us to do, knowing the next step can feel daunting.  Overwhelming.  Frustrating.  But maybe it’s daunting, overwhelming, and frustrating because we’re trying too hard to figure it out for ourselves.

As I’ve been writing this book…

  1. I’ve felt in too deep
  2. deficiently educated in the craft of writing (which is true), and
  3. inadequate to communicate the message that burns in my heart.

When I feel this way, I have to remind myself of this fact.  And It IS a fact.  When you ask God to help you take the necessary steps to fulfill the task He’s given, He always comes through.  No, seriously.  Always.  He always comes through.

The more I’ve written, the more I’ve realized that I need to take a course in writing.  I had no idea where to begin.  Google was no help.

About a week ago as I was getting read for bed, I asked God to direct me to the perfect writing course.  I went to bed.  I went to sleep.  I woke up.  (Well… it wasn’t actually that easy, but, that’s not important)

When I awoke the next morning, I checked my phone and I saw I had an email.  It was from God!  Well, you know what I mean.  Not technically from God but He certainly had a hand in it.  God had answered my prayer from less than 24 hours ago.  The email was information on a writing course that was exactly what I needed!  It was perfect for me!  Did I sign up?  You know it!

Look, Friends, God knows when we’re in too deep and need a little help.  And at just the right time, He’ll send it.

He knows when we feel like we need more knowledge to accomplish the task He’s given.  And at just the right time, He’ll give it.

God hears your prayers for help so keep praying.  He’s watching you take the steps He’s placed before you.  And at just the right time, He’ll shine the light on the next step and you’ll be confident enough to take it.

What we have to remember is, we don’t have to figure it all out.  Doesn’t that make you feel better?  It sure does me.  That very fact takes all the pressure off of us.  We don’t have to worry about what the next step is.  We don’t have to figure it all out.  We just have to do the best we can with the step we’re on.  He’ll help us.  He’ll guide us.  He’ll give us what we need.  And at just the right time, He’ll show us the next step to take.  So what do we do?  We just keep walking.  We just keep moving.  And one step at a time… we’ll succeed in what He calls us to do.
