I have to admit, sitting in a tree stand (deer hunting) in 17 degree temperatures with icy wind blowing in your face is not the normal girl’s idea of fun. But what’s so fun about normal, right? There are things in life we endure only by sheer will. That determination comes from knowing what we want and why we want it.
Check out this scripture…
“Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” Hebrews 12:1
Hebrews 12 tells us the key to enduring this race we call life.
Run the race God has planned for us.
Everybody is created for something. We are all given talents and abilities in a combination unique to us. Our quest is to discover how to use those talents and abilities to draw people to Jesus.
As believers in Jesus, we have all been commissioned the same.
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28: 19,20
As individuals created by God, we all carry out the Great Commission differently.
I carry out the Great Commission by writing and preaching. That is the plan God has chosen for me. Knowing it’s a plan of His choosing, I can endure whatever challenges and difficulties I face. Knowing “why” I’m writing and preaching – because God said – enables me to endure times when I don’t feel like writing and push through when preaching is difficult. God is my “why” and I endure because God said.
How does God want you to carry out the Great Commission? What talents and abilities do you have? What skills have you learned that you can use to open the door to a conversation about Jesus? You have a combination of talents, abilities and learned skills that are unique to you. No one else can do what you do in the sphere of influence you have.
Whatever that plan is… find it. Whatever that plan is… do it. Carrying out God’s plan is not always easy. There will be days you don’t know what to do. There may be times you want to quit. But, friend, endure the tough stuff and see God’s plan for your life fulfilled.
God has equipped us with everything we need to work the plan. It is up to us to find His plan and work hard at it. God has not set us up to fail. He’s set us up to succeed. The reason we sometimes feel like failures is because we’re working on a plan we designed for ourselves – or a plan that someone else designed for us. That just won’t cut it. It’s hard enough to endure the right plan. But trying to endure the wrong plan for your life… ugh!
I encourage you to take a few minutes and think about what you’re good at. Think about what you enjoy. Now ask God how you can use the things He’s gifted you with to draw people to Him. Ask Him what plan He’s set for your life. Ask Him how to carry out the plan with the abilities He’s given you. And carry out the plan.
I don’t what God’s plan for you is. But I do know this… whatever plan God chooses for you… is the best plan for you.
Hunting tip: My secret to enduring hours out in cold weather… Heat wraps! Buy heat wraps and stick them all over your body. Tops of your toes, your legs, your back, your shoulders, in your pockets. Wrap yourself in heat wraps. Lol! It works! Honest! If it didn’t, theres no way I’d be able to endure the freezing weather… no matter how much I wanted to.
